Health 360: a handbook young people can carry

Young people deserve health information they can carry and understand.

Health 360 was ACT Uganda’s idea in the Up Accelerate WAY edition. It became How to Stay Young and Healthy, a pocket-sized adolescent health handbook with age-appropriate information about puberty, relationships, and sexual and reproductive health. The first volume is designed for readers aged 11–12.

Made with Lamwo in mind

Developed with local voices

ACT Uganda developed the messages with local education and health expertise, then asked adolescents, parents, teachers and community leaders about the information young people need and how the handbook could reach families. Their feedback helped refine the content and plan its sale.

The draft reports more than 500 copies produced and UGX 1,005,000 in sales revenue. These are reported project figures; a reporting period was not included in the draft.

From an idea to a practical resource

Up Accelerate WAY was a health innovation incubator launched by UNFPA Uganda with Outbox and Reach A Hand Uganda. The draft says the programme was supported through the Women, Adolescents and Young People programme and helped young innovators in northern Uganda develop practical responses to sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence challenges.

ACT Uganda’s handbook is featured here as part of the existing Adolescent SRHR Innovation and Learning Project, rather than as a separate project entry.
