Inclusive Survivor-Led Safeguarding Learning Exchange and Joint Lab
ACT Uganda and ADYONET joined their experience to make safeguarding more responsive to survivors and people with disabilities.
A safeguarding policy is useful only when people can understand it, report a concern safely and receive a response that respects their choices. Children and survivors with disabilities can face extra barriers. From April to June 2026, ACT Uganda in Lamwo and the Africa Disability Youth Network (ADYONET) in Kasese worked together under Ignite Philanthropy’s HIVE Together in Practice programme to examine these gaps and learn from each other.
This detail page presents the 2026 HIVE learning exchange as part of ACT Uganda’s Survivor-Led Safeguarding Learning Exchange work.

Learning across community safeguarding and disability inclusion
Staff from both organisations met for a cross-learning exchange in Lira. They shared safeguarding policies and discussed challenges in daily work. ACT Uganda brought experience from community-based safeguarding; ADYONET brought expertise in disability inclusion and accessibility.
Together, the partners drafted and reviewed an Inclusive Survivor-Led Safeguarding Playbook prototype with practical guidance for grassroots organisations.

Concrete next steps for both organisations
ACT Uganda identified ways to make its policy review and future programmes more accessible. ADYONET identified steps to strengthen safeguarding records and procedures. Both teams agreed to keep refining the playbook and share lessons with the Ending Childhood Sexual Violence Community of Practice.
These are concrete next steps, not a claim that every safeguard has already been put in place. The partners plan to continue peer learning, improve the playbook using feedback from practice and share useful tools with other organisations.
Partners: ACT Uganda and Africa Disability Youth Network (ADYONET). Support named in the draft: Ignite Philanthropy, HIVE 2026 Together in Practice. Learning exchange: Lira; partner organisations based in Lamwo and Kasese.
